I’m Done With That… July 22, 2012
The power of saying words aloud… Have you ever realized how strong your words sounded to another person? Do you know the punch a spoken word of affirmation can do verses a degrading spoken word? If you don’t, then spend this week speaking affirmation to people and watch the reaction you get from them.
I recently had a little cosmetic treatment done and I was a tad bit nervous about it. (More like shaking but no need to showcase any more fear here.) I had two options of people to help me out and I chose the one I heard, “Had a much gentler way of handling the situation.”
The positive affirmation gave me assurance. When a colleague speaks a preference of one person over another I tend to go with whomever he/she recommends.
Or, when I speak Psalms aloud instead of just reading them silently. When I speak, For the LORD is righteous, He loves righteousness; the upright will behold His face. (Psalm 11:7), my cat may think I’m crazy for seemingly talking to the air but my God hears my words and relishes in them.
There’s power in speaking aloud; especially in a world dominated by text messaging, Tweeting, and email. If someone’s willing to call or FaceTime with me, I’m much more apt to relish that relationship than one that’s dominated by reading words on a screen.
Words hold power. The spoken word holds ultimate power.
So today I walked out of church and verbally said, ”I’m done with being afraid of being alone.” It’s a ridiculous fear that’s truly keeping me for living and ministering in full freedom.
And the thing is, I know I’m never going to be alone unless I choose to be alone. I have outstanding friends and family around me right now. I’d like to be married someday but it’s not in my hands so I’m not too terribly concerned with making a man like me or not like me. And kids… Yes, I want them but right now I want my cat Skippyjon Jones a whole lot more.
I’ve been allowing a lie to destroy my current reality. And that’s ungodly.
Pastor Furtick said today something that I hope to resonate on and unpack more soon. But, I’ll leave you with the basics and hope you’ll cling to it as you begin to be done with your fears too.
Satan shouts lies because he can’t get close to us. He keeps shouting and shouting lies hoping to bring us dow.
God whispers truth because He’s so close to us. He doesn’t have to shout. He’s doing life with you.
Listen to the Truth God whispers to you. There’s no need to fear when the God of the universe, He who holds the world in His hands, stands so close to you all He has to do is whisper and you’ll hear Him. Pick one fear today and be done with it. Say it out loud. Scream it so Satan can hear you too.
Say it after me: I’m done with ______________________________!
